The military has moved quickly to defend and defy Cameroonian since the botched coup d’etat of April 6, 1984. Due to the Boko Haram conflict, the military has been defending Cameroonians in the Far North since 2013. Since the beginning of the Anglophone crisis in 2016, the military has been labeled as violent, an army of occupation, and inhumane.

As early as 2014, Islamic separatist fighters (Boko Haram) in the North of Cameroon are attacking schools. North Cameroon schools under attack have suffered structural damages and loss of live. The most recent attack cost the student its life.
