Claim: Vaccinated People Are Now Classed As Patent Goods is False

A video recirculating the internet since 2022 asserts that the Supreme Court ruled vaccinated people are no longer human and are classed as patent goods. This claim is completely false. There is no such Supreme Court ruling, and this claim is baseless misinformation.

AstraZeneca’s Admission About Rare Side Effects

The COVID-19 vaccines have been associated with some rare side effects. However, this is not an “about-turn” or indication that the vaccines are unsafe. Rare side effects are expected and monitored with any vaccine. Furthermore, the overwhelming evidence shows that the COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective at preventing severe illness. AstraZeneca’s admission about this in court documents does not negate these facts.

Spreading Unfounded Conspiracy Theories

Public health authorities and medical experts have repeatedly debunked unfounded conspiracy theories about vaccines. The resurfacing of this video is simply the latest attempt to spread these debunked claims. After AstraZeneca’s admittance of the rare side effects of its COVID-19 vaccine in 2024, these experts have continued to affirm that the vaccines are safe and effective overall.

Misinterpreting a Supreme Court Ruling

The claim that the Supreme Court ruled vaccinated people are “patented goods” or “no longer human” appears to be a misinterpretation of a 2013 U.S. Supreme Court ruling. That ruling was actually about the patentability of naturally occurring gene sequences and synthetic complementary-DNA (cDNA), not about vaccines or individuals who receive them.

Experts have clarified that receiving a vaccine, including mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, does not change a person’s human rights or legal status. The mRNA technology used in these vaccines does not modify the human genome or DNA, but rather instructs cells to produce a protein that triggers an immune response.

Background on the Speaker

The speaker in the video is Elana Freeland, an author and speaker known for her work on subjects like geoengineering and electromagnetic warfare. Regarding COVID-19 vaccines, she has beens associated with conspiracy theories and alternative narratives about public health practices.
