Prior to ad approval, Facebook and TikTok failed to adequately examine sponsored posts and advertising that contained false and unverifiable information. Robots are unable to interpret video content or skits in local palangs. VPNs are use to bypass government laws within a country that do not violate Instagram guidelines. Additionally, since robots are designed to grasp written text rather than films, it is far simpler to propagate false information, even through a sponsor video art.

Disinformation about Products/Services from Content Creators

In a test, numerous Facebook users were able to publish information that is not legal in Cameroon and fund the advertisement by using a VPN. On the other side, YouTube has more stringent restrictions that make convincing them to sponsor an advertisement more challenging. The majority of these advertisements promoted the purchase of illicit narcotics, firearms, or “hookers.”

In a related experiment, CNN Business discovered that TikTok accepted 90% of the advertisements that contained plainly inaccurate or misleading information. According to the research, Facebook accepted a “substantial amount” of videos but far fewer than TikTok.

Video disinformation and the use of VPNs are not tough to spot; followers of these accounts can view the post without using a VPN. Through their engagements such frauds can be spot on from their comments or other interactions with it. Social platforms can do better in detecting hoaxes. As much as social media platforms are responsible for curbing the spread of disinformation. Users share in that responsibility to report posts, comments or accounts that are misleading.
