Who We Are

Independent fact-checking organisation in Cameroon

Cameroon Check, is a non-profit organisation founded in 2022 to promote credibility in the Cameroon media through training, research and information dissemination.

Cameroon needed an organisation dedicated to analysing media content of different renowned institutions, holding public figures accountable for what they say and debunking false and malicious statements. Every day in Cameroon, people make decisions, big and small. To do this, they rely on publicly available information, often that information is misleading or just plain wrong.

The impact of this false information in Cameroon is abundantly clear that an organisation as this is necessary to check media and influencers accountable. This will potentially increase sustainable development.

Our Impact

As a means to ensure accountability in the media, we surf the media analysing content disseminated by the government, news agencies and high-profile personalities to encourage the dissemination of unbiased and objective information. We rigorously track and measure progress towards our organisational objectives in order to achieve a sustainable impact.

As a startup NGO we are dedicated in building our data of information so we can cross check published data and enforce the dissemination of facts. Our goal is to regularly publish fact check reports, factsheets, claims, fact guides and training sessions on fact checking and information verification.

Our Organisational Goals

  1. Assist in creating a network of impartial fact-checkers across the country.
  2. Identify incorrect and misleading assertions about important issues and stop them from being spread.
  3. Ensure that the public and decision-makers have a better knowledge of important issues.
  4. Encourage the public, especially young people/journalist, to practice fact-checking skills.

How It All Started

Cameroon Check, an independent fact-checking organization sponsored solely by Prof Julius Che Tita for now. We aim to debunk potential harmful information and reveal errors in the national statistics.

Through our efforts, we hope to lessen the effect and spread of false information while advancing fact-based knowledge among the general public, governing bodies, and the media. In the end, this will promote active citizenry, strengthen democracy, and enhance life outcomes all throughout the country.
